About Malaspina
As one of the largest public employers in the City of Nanaimo, Malaspina University-College offers the opportunity to work in a stimulating and diverse environment.
The unique university college concept was established in British Columbia in 1989 by the provincial government and combines the best of the Canadian university and college traditions. Our mandate is provided by the B.C. College and Institute Act and related legislation.
Malaspina proudly offers a wide range of high-quality academic, applied, career/technical, vocational, and developmental programs leading to degrees, diplomas and certificates at the Nanaimo, Cowichan, Powell River Campuses and the Parksville Centre. Teaching excellence and student success are stressed in all programs, and faculty engage in a diversity of scholarly activities. Classes are small, allowing individual and direct communication among faculty, staff and students. In 2005-06, over 14,000 individual students (6,577 full-time equivalent) were enrolled in credit programs; 10% of the student population is of aboriginal ancestry. In addition, over 9,000 individuals are taking part in Continuing Education courses, and over 1,500 in contract training programs.
Malaspina University-College is known for its strong entrepreneurial spirit and has been a leader in International Education and contract training for business and industry since the early 1980s. More than 1,880 international students were enrolled during the 2005-06 year.
